It was a book that I read...

Neither bad nor good, it's just something that exists. Hence the 3 stars.

Everything about this book is about subtlety and, unfortunately, it does not come across well in the writing.

I often found myself thinking that I should DNF (even when I only had 30 pages left) Ararat because I've never had such a hard time connecting to a story.

It would probably make a better movie, honestly šŸ˜…

I'd love to see this as a movie or mini series...

Golden navigated the twists and turns of various religious beliefs with perfection.

But I will say, if you're even remotely a traditionalist when it comes to biblical tales or anti-occult/demonology, this is not the book for you.

Depending on what you take away from the ending, it's either a cool open-ended approach to an ending OR kind of insulting. I read a lot into stuff (symbolism, allegories, etc), so based on that and other imagery and allusions made in the book, I found the ending a little insulting and kind of sexist, but I can see other readers NOT coming away with that reading.

Noah, what happened. Come on man. 7/10.

Cons: A very quick-paced book, where we donā€™t get many quiet moments to explore many of the characters except for a handful. Once the threat is ā€œrevealedā€, the tension stagnates. Although thereā€™s still a will-they-wonā€™t-they-make-it plot, thereā€™s little guessing as to whatā€™s going to happen.

Pros: Archaeological horror! Itā€™s the best subgenre and I always appreciate more of it! A great roster of characters that come from varying backgrounds and places, and the tensions and relationships between them are very much real to the world.
