I saw the cover for Scorched by Mari Mancusi and knew I had to read it. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve read a book about dragons. Unfortunately, there wasn’t quite as much dragon action as I was hoping for, but it was still a really fun read. The first half of the book was action packed, engaging and wonderful, after that things got a little confused, but I’m eager to see where this series goes next.

I enjoyed the main trio of characters–who can say no to twin brothers? Not me! There’s a love triangle here, but the celebrity love that the guys have for Trinity is a new take and pretty compelling. The dragon was a more hit and miss character for me. She spends most of the book inside an egg, and the book’s dragon action mainly takes place in a dreamscape.

If you’re looking for a female twist on Eragon, this isn’t it. The book takes place in modern times (and sort of, the future), and there isn’t a lot of action. Still a recommended read though, especially if you’re looking for a cool infusion of fantasy into our world.

Andddddd once again Carmen misinterprets the idea of this novel at the beginning.
(Ok I thought it was going to be set in medieval times, I HAD NO IDEA WE WERE GETTING HOT TWINS TIME TRAVELING FROM THE FUTURE.)

Completely surprised me by how much I enjoyed it.

I'm waffling between a 3 and 4 for this book. I loved the base storyline. Girl gets dragon egg and bonds with dragon baby thus starting a chain of events that is the end of the world. Twin boys go back in time to stop her from bonding with the dragon, each on different sides of the battle with dragons and with their own motivations. It's all pretty damn cool. I just wish it wasn't quite so young of a young adult novel. I just wanted a little more and when the climax of the action happened I was unfazed since I knew all would be well. But that dragon stuff is awesome!!!!

I've had my eye for a while on Scorched based on the cover alone. Trinity is a gamer girl living with her grandfather. Life hasn't been easy she didn't know her dad and her mom passed away leaving her with her grandfather. When her grandfather tells her about a dragon egg that was found by a team and it’s coming to Texas Trinity doesn't expect the egg to be real. When the egg turns out to be the real deal, soon she’s able to speak with the dragon in the egg. As if a baby dragon isn't enough she also has the attention of two strangers one who wants to destroy the egg and one who wants to save the egg.

When Conner the dragon hunter heads off to get her grandfather Trinity takes off with Caleb in attempt to save her little dragon egg. After all the group they head off the join is all about changing the future, and the guys would know all about the future since that is where they came from. Trinity learns more about the plans for the future about the ones who claim to want to save the dragons. As she learns more about her dragon, she encounters an extremely difficult hatching with Emmy but she does hatch. Do they really want to save the dragons or do the leaders have evil motives.

I instantly connected with Trinity she’s a gamer, and granted I’m a closet WoW player she had me giggling about her intense desire for the new expansion. I wasn't sold on the gut but in the end I was rooting for them just like I was with Trinity. That being said I think Conner is my favorite his brother frustrated me through most of the book. However I’m not sure how it will work out since both guys like Trinity. Her grandfather reminds me a lot of my grandfather when I was a teenager. I could see him logging into wow and saying the same stuff.

I've had this one on my TBR list since the day I heard about it. I’m a huge dragon fan and of course Scorched is a must for all dragon fans. The characters are likable you can’t help falling in love with Trinity she’s just a good person. Plus add in two attractive guys one a hunter and one a dragon guardian what’s not to love. Scorched has a captivating concept I think the author has done a fantastic job creating a unique story that’s very original with the idea of dragons. I was instantly drawn into the book; I honestly wasn't able to put it down. Started last night and passed out only to finish this afternoon it’s such an awesome book. I love the story it’s fast paced filled with action, enough suspense to keep you guessing and a little romance a perfect mix. I’m going to be impatiently waiting for the next book, because I can’t wait to see what happens next. Scorched is a clean book so teens as well as adults will enjoy it. This is my first book by this author but now I need to start her other books. I loved Scorched I'll be reading this again I'm sure.

Read for Fun/Listened for Review (Library/Brilliance)
Overall Rating: 3.75
Story Rating: 3.75
Character Rating: 3.75

Audio Rating: 3.50 (not part of the overall rating)

Read It File It (Short Review: I have to admit that the 2nd half of Scorched by Mari Mancusi really hooked me! The beginning wasn't bad but it took a bit till I was invested in the characters (Trin is a great leading character but neither brother was hooking me in the beginning. After everything clicked though the book was hard to put down. It was just downright enjoyable! Confession: I just started playing WOW again so the dragons were a big pull to me reading this story and Mari didn't let me down!

Audio Thoughts:
Narrated By Miriam Volle / Length: 9 hrs and 48 mins

I thought Mariam Volle did a decent job with the narration. I think book 2 will probably work better for me than book 1 because I am now used to her male voices (those took me a bit to warm up too). Her pacing was terrific though and I thought she was spot on for Trin!

3.5/5 stars maybe?

It's a fast read and I liked it but I didn't love it. I felt I could've loved it but it's missing something... More substance? Heart? I can't really put my finger on it but it's missing that element that elevates it to something more... something greater.

The entire thing felt one dimensional. I never really felt invested in the characters or their goals, maybe other than Emmy the dragon but that's only until the very end.

Full review to come.
