I wanted to enjoy this more than I did but I unfortunately wasn’t touched by it. I find that perhaps some of my thoughts regarding breast reconstruction do not align with the author’s so a lot of that discourse was lost on me because I wasn’t as angry as she was. I did appreciate how vulnerable this account is, but it was repetitive.

this is an Audre Lorde can do no wrong fan account

“For as we open ourselves more and more to the genuine conditions of our lives, women become less and less willing to tolerate those conditions unaltered, or to passively accept external and destructive controls over our lives.”

This work really emphasizes and combats the silence that exists in so many areas of our lives. It addresses the pain of cancer and how to deal with it to have power and overcome. Audre Lorde along with providing an account of her own life and position as "black lesbian feminist warrior poet" reaches out to women all over to help them gain insight into the power which they can have. She speaks of acceptance and of what can be done in order to improve many of the systems of power that our society places on us. A provocative and healing read that is full of the insight and wisdom that Audre Lorde represents.

every time I return to this book, I find newer appreciation for the vulnerability and power with which Audre Lorde writes about life, love, death, fear and community. absolutely brilliant and moving.
