I enjoyed tv-adaptation (season 1 at least, before all the drama about producers), but this book was so hard to get through. I read at least 100 pages and don't care about any of characters or the story itself. Maybe it's lost in translation (I'm reading this in russian), but I didn't get the humor.
Not for me, unfortunately:/

I was mostly just reading this and making the face from the meme that goes "????" Because the jumping plot was a bit much for my little brain. Usually I'm ok with some time travel but Douglas Adams just throws a person into it. For instance, he introduces a character that is clearly not like the others, it has a different style of name and different type of 3rd person perspective. But it took me half the book to figure out what that character was. I've never read a Douglas Adams book so I wouldn't know if this is normal or just a one-off. However, the titular character is charming in a silly sort of way. Like a really fucked up Miss Marple.
Moderate: Animal death, Death, Gun violence, Violence, Blood, Murder
Extremely odd and refreshingly unexpected. And funny, of course.

Regarding the BBC full-cast dramatisation: absolutely perfect
Well it was definatley Douglas Adams...even a quote "so long and thanks for..." then left you hanging. I listened to this and it was done as a readers theater, variety of characters and sound affects to carry the story along. Really strange and really good as well. If you like audible books, this might be a great one for you.
