I mean…it’s Douglas Adams. Of course it’s good. Samuel Jennings will be happy that I’m on to Dungeon Crawler Carl next on audio.

I really hated the series "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", so one might find it surprising that I picked up a book by this author again. And yes, it was a mistake on my part.
The reason I did attempt the read is because I absolutely love the wacky TV show based off these books; but let me tell you, the first book has no similarities beyond the phrase "interconnectedness of everything".
I cannot stand Douglas Adams, and his weird writing that tries so hard to be quirky. I swear him off, forevermore!

fun, confusing and abstract - quintessential Douglas Adams.

Wow, I remember reading/trying to read this as a kid and not enjoying it that much. But as an adult, I find it just as good as the first Hitchhiker's Guide book. The characters are memorable, the plot is crazy and interesting, the jokes are thick and, while I never laughed out loud, I was amused in an intellectual way. If I were more annoying I'd be quoting sections of this book to unsuspecting victims (my wife and kids).
I do have to admit the first half of this book is rather confusing because the plot doesn't start to connect in any way until about the 50% mark (not too surprisingly, this is when the main character finally appears). Up to that point the reader is following several characters, I think 5, and each of them is at best tangentially related to the others and the whole thing makes no sense. But somehow if you get through that, the last 50% of the book is a dream. So, I kind of wish Douglas Adams had chosen a more linear plot, but then the ending wouldn't have been as entertaining.
I should also mention you really have to pay attention while you read this. Little things at the beginning end up being important at the end.
