After watching Bridgerton I was sure I would like the book, but never would have guessed how completely I enjoyed it start to finish.

I don't think a book has ever made me laugh as much as The Duke and I. I adored every character we got a chance to know. I was surprised how little a part Lady Whistledown played in the book. Many of the conflicts in the book were far more satisfying than the show, feeling much more realistic and believable.

I would definitely suggest checking trigger warnings. Even with the show I wasn't expecting so much talk on a few heartbreaking subjects that could be sensitive.

All in all I'm very excited to start the next book even though Ibwas hesitant before having not really enjoyed Anthony's season of the show.

It was going perfect. I mean, the characters didn't have much more personality outside of their feelings for one another, but I liked them.
I was loving Daphne, actually. And her right hook.
Simon had less depth in my eyes, he was pretty much attraction for Daphne and a bundle of daddy issues made into a man. A very handsome one at that, though I'm not sure because we were mostly given hair and eye color plus height and that's it.
Actually, it was pretty much the same with Daphne.
But anyway, that's not my point. My point is that scene.
Seriously, I could give my 4 stars and go on my merry way if it weren't for that scene.
In a shell, I'm still not sure if Daphne raped Simon. I think it at least qualifies as dubious consent.  What bothers me so much is that they never address that particular moment when she made sure he couldn't pull out.
Basically, they just kiss and make up two months later and no one ever talks about how wrong the whole deal was. A most fundamental betrayal at best, a fucking assault at worst... I don't know, I just couldn't manage to get past that. Even after everything is resolved and everybody is happy, I just couldn't throw my hat in with Daphne and Simon anymore.
I will be reading the next ones, of course, because I don't think I'll ever have enough of the eldest Bridgerton brothers. But I'm eager to just read about another couple and let Daphne and Simon go on their not-so-merry way.

The book is an easy reading, however
I just can't get over how Daphne rapes Simon and that is portrayed as some form of empowerment. It was not necessary for the plot in anyway, the problems could be resolved in another way and, more importantly, by the way it was though about by the characters later it almost felt as if the author knew how it would be received, knew it was wrong and then decided to keep it in the book anyway.
I will probably read the rest of the books because I'm chronically curious, but I do hope this sort of thing is not common in all of them.

4⭐️1.5🌶️(open door, not very descriptive)
I enjoyed this book but I enjoyed the show a little more! The show has a diverse cast, more drama, more characters, etc. In the book we don’t get the Queen, Anthony’s storyline, the featheringtons’ storyline, or the boxing storyline. Other than that there are some minor changes. I would suggest reading it if you’re a huge fan of the show. I also listened to the audiobook and I loved the narrator. Probably won’t reread, but will rewatch the show. If the show didn’t exist, I would reread.
