Great road-trip listen. Read by author and each section relatively independent. Lots of good stories. As usual I don’t always buy all of his conclusions, but it is interesting and thought provoking.

3.5? i’m trying really hard not to overrate every gladwell book i read just because i Love his writing

"Things are not always as they seem. Perceptions of advantage are often challenged when an underdog takes the cake. Malcolm Gladwell explores the dynamics of remarkable individuals who clearly had to overcome extreme odds to achieve success in David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants.

Gladwell is a master storyteller, engaging the reader at every turn to explore the lives of a few modern day heroes (some well-known and others totally anonymous) through true accounts of their experiences, at time heart-wrenching, to their ultimate successes. A common thread is the concept that difficult times and traumatic experiences, as long as they are a “near miss,” can contribute to the formation of a focused and driven individual capable of great things.

A wonderfully inspiring account of making miracles out of disaster with elements of history and social commentary."

I liked this the best of Gladwell's books. It's the same format as his other books- a collection of stories- but these all were related with a very interesting idea: why being big and powerful isn't as much an advantage as you assume it is, and the limits of power. When in done reading and thinking about the book, talking to others about issues it raised, that's the mark of an excellent book! I really enjoyed this one & I'm in the Christmas spirit so FIVE STARS. :)

I always enjoy Gladwell even if he pushes a point a bit too far sometimes. I do appreciate his attempts, sometimes blatant, to be balanced. Sometimes I think that those who rise above their weakness are the true "outliers". I especially enjoyed his discussion of the civil rights movement and how the media was used to advance the cause. Forgiveness as a strength and not a weakness is touched upon. Another good example of how to write an essay

audiobook - really enjoyed listening to this, fascinating material & Gladwell is a uniquely talented writer & narrator. only complaint would be a desire for more female profiles.

I have loved Malcolm Gladwell's books in the past, but I confess to "not loving" this one. I was definitely disappointed.
