This book was adorably awesome. I loved Kayla and Lachlan in this book, the connection between them was still there. Even the grumpy old grandfather couldn't ruin the connection between these too. It was a perfect followup to The Play . I always love Karina Halle, but this was the cutest holiday, winter novella. 4 stars!

I loved The Play but I just didn't care for this. Typically I don't like sequels that feature the same couple (unless it's a J. Daniels, which in that case I could read 5 books on the same couple) so that may be part of the problem because this just felt unnecessary. I like my holiday novellas to be sweet, fluffy and filled with Christmas cheer and this was depressing. I understand that Kayla and Lachlan are complex characters who aren't going to happily snuggle together and give me cuteness overload but I did want something that would give me the warm fuzzies. There is a lot of sex in this (this maybe the first time I've ever complained about that), which I felt was used as the cute couple moments and again it just didn't work for me.

I was so freaking excited when I saw this was coming out. More Lachlan and Kayla? Yes please! There was lots of sexy times but there was a nice story in there as well. I like seeing that Lachlan and Kayla's happily ever after is still ongoing, not a perfectly resolved ending, just like in real life. Plus this book nicely set up Brigs' story. I can't wait to find out how his heart begins to heal...

"There's nothing shameful about taking help when it's offered to you, especially when it comes from someone who loves you, who only wants what's best."

It's so important to remember this ^^. It goes out to myself too. Our pride, our will to do everything ourselves must be played aside sometimes..

I liked the little novella, Lachlan and Kayla are my favorite, so I was glad to get a bit more of them!

The perfect bridge between The Pact and The Lie and the most beautiful explanation of what a person gains and gives by loving a pet.

Winter Wishes is kind of a novella length epilogue to The Play. We check back in with Lachlan and Kaylan and see what their first Christmas is like together full of vexing family members, missing home, sobriety, and romance. I don’t really have much to say about this one that wasn’t already said in my review of The Play. (You can check out that review here. ) Overall, I was happy to see Lachlan and Kayla in love and enjoying each other. There were steamy scenes and also a puppy… but not at the same time, obviously. But, hey, who can turn down a quick read with some good smut and an adorable puppy? Am I right?

An extended epilogue for Kayla and Lachlan in which they spend their first Christmas together at his grumpy-ass, racist grandfather's in Aberdeen. There's plenty of steam, including some sexy times at a castle.

I love everything about these books! Karina makes me have all the feels with every book I've read of hers and I can't wait to dig into The Lie!!
