This was okay. It had an interesting plot line and I liked the heroine. The only issues I had were I don't like who she ends up getting with later on and I didn't like the way the dialogue was written.

Oh what to do with this...It's a great story, honestly, and the writing is tight. The female characters are very interesting and all various degrees of flawed and good, all fascinating in their own right. But the male characters...ugh. I cannot explain how deeply I despise Logan and Joe. Actually...yes, I can.

Joe is a toxic white knight possessive mothafucker and I wish he had actually died so I could read more of this series without encountering him ever again. Want to know how to write an overbearing cop who uses the pretense of chivalry to cover up for being an asshole? Et voila.

Logan is just so basic. It's infuriating. He's your every frat boy become GOP lackey and in this respect he's incredibly well-written because he is a very believable character. Unfortunately so. We have all met - and subsequently avoided - Logans.

I would happily read more of this series to read more Eve Duncan and to experience Johansen's skillfully crafted thrillers. But if this volume is any indication, I'm afraid a significant amount of page space will be given to both Logan and Joe and their inane rivalry and I just don't know how many more times I can hold the vomit in my mouth.

4.5 Phenomenal first book... this is a huge series and I am so happy to dig into them. My Dad and brothers loved it and recommended it so I know it's up my alley. Lots of twists and turns!

First in the series.

I chose this book because it was the first in the Eve Duncan series. I thought that the plot was interesting.

First book in the Eve Duncan-series. Surprising turn in the plot halfway the book. The dialogues in the book between Eve and Logan were sometimes getting in the way of the story, in my opinion. Nevertheless, well worth the read.

One can see she's coming from the romance field, there's a bit of silliness that oughtn't be there, and the premise is wild, not plausible, but still, all in all a pretty good read. Enough for me to move on deeper into the series.
