Charlie wakes one day to see the land outside covered in snow. He wonders what the family will do, soon to see that it is the perfect day to sled. Charlie and the family head up and down the hill, letting the snow guide them in twists and turns. However, when Charlie's fellow ranch dog, Walter, goes missing, it's up to Charlie to use a keen sense of smell to save the day. While he's cold and frozen, Charlie soon sees just what reward awaits his heroic behaviour. Neo is learning to read and so this book was quite good to pave the way. As I chose random words for him to decipher, he noticed repeats that allowed him to determine the challenge before him. With no pets, surely part of the story was lost on Neo, but he still remembers how much fun it can be to sled in the snow.

Neo took the lead on this one, bring us back into the life of Charlie the Ranch Dog. When Charlie is hungry for some food, he goes to find Mama out in the garden. Little does he know, but there is a rabbit trying to steal carrots, which will surely upset Mama. Charlie crafts a plan to trap the rabbit, but that little animal is a sneaky one. With a wiggle of its nose, the rabbit stares at Charlie and waits to score another carrot. By the end, Charlie has made peace with the rabbit and all seem happy. Neo liked the story, though struggled at times. I'm seeing a strong determination, which will be fruitful before too long.
