A fast paced detailed story with a strong female lead Katsa. Good to see her develop into a more confidant and totally independent woman during the adventures.
An interesting world with the good guys more complex and fleshed our than the baddies. This was not a problem as the story strongly hinges on people working together and trusting each other.
Recommended.

This book is #1 in a series of 5(?), and yet, it ended. Like a full, complete story. 3 stars bc while it was good and an easy read, it just felt like it was lacking any sort of depth.
Additionally, there were a lot of things that were difficult to figure out (which are explained in the prologue of the second book??).

Beautifully written and with something for everyone. My only (very tiny) complaint is that due to a few sex scenes I would have to watch who I recommend it to.

read this for a lit circle in grade 8. i really really liked it. i took a star off simply for the fact that the twist and her true grace doesn’t make sense sort of? her crossing the mountain with just regular clothes and surviving basically impossible weather definitely is wild. it’s a fantasy novel so really it doesn’t matter.
This was a fun, female lead YA fantasy story. Will read the second book now.

Favorite young adult book from my teen years. Can’t recommend enough. So fun. Strong main character, compelling plot, great development.
