The estranged son of a washed up rock star is setup with a successful attorney in a fake-dating scenario to benefit both of their professional lives. They both have important work functions coming up, and figure they would look better with an attractive man on their arm.
Of course, they end up actually falling for each other. But also of course, they don't communicate it very well. Lots of back and forth and (in my opinion, excessive) drama.
The whole thing was pretty silly, mostly in a funny way. The one liners were cute, friends were quirky, etc. Bonus points for queer representation, but I am not personally a fan of miscommunication plot lines.

When I got into the contemporary romance genre I expected to read a lot more rom com type of stories and most are marketed that way but not many are true rom com’s. THIS is a true rom com. It’s funny, lighthearted, emotional when it needs to be, has hijinks and all manner of romantic/cute scenes sprinkled throughout. Alexis Hall realty understands character and writes some of the best, flawed and imperfect people to root for. When I read their books, I NEVER question if the main couple will stay together because you already know how well they fit because it’s laid out for you, bit by bit, in the story. I loved this book and if you want to enjoy a story from start to finish then this is the story for you.

Luc O’Donnell is the child of 80s celebrities. His life has been tabloid fodder since his first serious boyfriend sold their story five years earlier, leaving him heartbroken and wrecked. The author does a terrific job of showing Luc’s devastation and his eccentric group of friends. Maybe a little too good. There were moments when Luc was acting out so ridiculously that it seemed over-the-top. But the in-jokes, the clueless friends, and the absurdist humor are so well done that I just let it go and went along for the ride. (That would have worked better if it was fifty pages shorter.)
Honestly, in spite of all the picking at it I’m doing here in this review, it was a blast to read. There seems to be a bit of a thing comparing it to Red White and Royal Blue— which I also loved— , and while the similarities are obvious, if I had to pick one, I’d pick this one. Really enjoyed it. Four and a half stars rounded up.

Did you say Fake Boyfriend? I love that trope and I was so ready to read another book with it, but I wasn’t ready for the depth I found, I really thought it was going to be all fluff and silliness and people trying to get out of embarrassing situations, which it is not my thing, so I was pleasantly surprised it wasn’t at all! It was about two guys who even though, specially Oliver, were pretty successful, were so very insecure and how they help themselves and each other to be better for them and their partners and in the case of Luc even others.
