I used to like Sidney Sheldon many years ago. Who has changed, me or him? For the first 1/4 of this book it was a real chore to read. I trudged through it and it did get better. Not a ton better, but readable. The characters su*#ed, even the ones you were supposed to like were stupid. They did & said things that a "normal" person in the same situation would never do or say. I did finish it, finally, and am giving it 2 stars. I would never give it 3 because then I might accidently read it again!

Sydney Sheldon never disappoints. Although I agree with the reviews that claims this isn't one of Sheldon's best works, it was still a great read.
Are You Afraid of the Dark is a fast-paced page-turner filled with suspense and action. Like most of Sydney Sheldon's books, the protagonists Kelly and Diane are smart and resilient - they are unstoppable. They are always one step ahead the game and always manages to escape from their assassins at the last possible minute... all the while uncovering the truth behind the mysterious murders of the top scientists from around the globe.
Although 99% of the events that unfolded in the novel are over-the-top and unbelievable, the story itself was captivating and well laid out.

I have read several of Sidney Sheldon's books and of all the books this is my second favorite. The first is 'Tell Me your Dreams'. I really enjoyed reading this one. it has the right pacing, right amount of suspense and most of all the title is perfect. I think I like the title a little more than the book it self. If you have never read a Sidney Sheldon before, this is a good place to start.
The few Sidney Sheldon books I've read have been like printed soap operas. Short scenes, even recaps after commercial breaks. Quick, but not substantial reads.
