This one is such a complicated one for me to review because I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either… I love The Deal so I was excited to read about one of Hannah & Garrett’s children and getting to see their interactions but it just kind of fell flat and there just wasn’t enough of them. I did like Gigi & Ryder, overall, once they got together and the story kept me invested once I got a few chapters in but idk I feel like this wasn’t plotted well? Like it had a basic premise but then once Gigi & Ryder started hooking up, it’s like the main two plot points were put on the back burner and then just randomly wrapped up at the end. And something happens in the last 15% that completely came out of left field and felt so pointless?

Also there’s just something about Kennedy’s writing that grates on me. I’ve read quite a few books by her at this point and while I will continue to love The Deal, I think this will be the last book of hers that I’ll read of hers. The way she writes feels so misogynistic, like she hates women and any kind of relationship that’s not strictly m/f. And like I assume she doesn’t because she has m/m books but just the way that she adds in conversations about certain things and the way pretty much all of her male characters speak. For example, Ryder calls women “chicks” constantly and Gigi & Mya have a whole conversation about how they can’t understand threesomes or throuples or any other kind of “unconventional” relationship. And it’s just something that irks me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also this is probably more of a me thing but it stresses me out so much in m/f books when they “accidentally” forgot to use a condom and then they’re like “omg I’ve never forgotten to use one before, I’m just so obsessed with them” and the author uses it as a way to show that they have so much chemistry that they can’t even think when they’re together or that it means they’re meant to be. Personally, I don’t think that’s romantic or hot at all, like they should stay far away from each other lol and I just spend the rest of the book stressed that a surprise pregnancy trope is going to pop up 🤷🏻‍♀️

But yeah, I don’t know. This was fine but I’m gonna go back to my queer hockey romances 😂
