2020 review:

I've seen people complain that this wasn't enough of a thriller for them, and I think that's a complete valid issue to have, but I didn't expect this to be any kind of thriller (I guess I just didn't read the back properly) I just thought it was going to be a survival story, and that's what I got, so I was super happy with it.

While reading the first half of the book, I thought Jess was whiney and annoying - the "woe is me" type. And I didn't really care for the anti-God remarks from her dad. The second half of the book, I was more worried about the dog, because he was the only character I actually liked. It's a survival story, but not one of my favorites.

Ya know, this one had a lot of ups and downs. I had high expectations because rules of vanishing way incredible but this just didnt hit any mark. The main character is flat until the last 50 pages. The primary conflict feels avoidable. Really the only thing that kept me going was wondering if the dog would survive **spoiler** he does not.

I received a copy of this book from First To Read in exchange for an honest review. Lately it's unusual for a book to hold my attention to the point that I don't want to put it down. This book did that. The last part of the book felt very suspenseful and had me reading quickly because I just wanted to know what happened. This is a survival story, but its more than just that. It's a story about a young woman who is broken, physically and emotionally. Through horrific events she pieces herself back together. Through this process becomes stronger than she ever would have been had those events never happened. It's a story of resilience and it's a very good one at that.
