This book has a really dark tone throughout the whole thing. Some of the content was too graphic for me, or I would have kept reading.

No wonder this book got so much hype! I truly don't have any critiques about this book. I didn't think I would be so engrossed in a travel memoir (StoryGraph reading challenge moment), but this is superbly written, and every story merges perfectly with their designated flashbacks. There were times at which I was wondering what the connection was between the two, but Jones never failed to wrap it up nicely and top it with a bow.

It was not what I expected but in a very good way! The lush prose, the philosophical approaches to her lived experience, and the parts of her life that she shares came together to form a compelling whole. I read this via audiobook and enjoyed the way she narrated, though I kind of wish I had read a physical copy so I could go over passages to fully extract its meaning and underline all of her wonderful quotes. This made me think in new ways and I want to keep reading her work!
