HOW PRECIOUS

I'd never actually read A Christmas Carol, so this year I decided to do it. After finishing it, I have to tell you that only now do I realize how bizarrely, meticulously faithful the Muppet Christmas Carol is to its source material. That movie has Kermit the Frog and Gonzo speaking lines from this book verbatim. It takes cues from the descriptions of scenes and costumes to a degree that is frankly amazing. It was impossible to read the book after growing up with that adaptation and not picture Miss Piggy and Michael Caine, especially when the dialogue they were delivering was literally what was on the page.

It was a nice read, if a bit moralizing—but that's the entire point, and the moral in question is being kind to other people instead of focusing on hoarding money, so I'm fine with it (and really, I can think of some CEOs I wish could have the bejeezus scared out of them by a few visits from the spirit world).

I had no idea this book was as short as it was (<100 pages!). Classic.

2.5 ⭐️!

As appears to be tradition, I pull this pocket-sized classic out when I’m feeling near death around Christmas. This round, I had Hugh Grant read it to me while I faded in and out of consciousness.

I never felt the introduction fit the book but who am I? Chuck Dickens? No notes for the remainder of the book, just vibes.

This fella can be knocked out in a couple hours, or a few hours if you’re busy fighting for your life. It’s a lovely, cozy read that puts you squarely in the holiday spirit. Easy to read again and again.

The film The Man Who Invented Christmas or the tv show Dickensian is a fun accompaniment to this read. Highly recommend.

Everyone knows this story, and I'm no exception, but I'd never read the book and figured this Christmas was the right time to take it on! And I'm so glad I did--I've always enjoyed the characters and storyline of "A Christmas Carol," and they are ever-richer to me for having read them in their original forms. The language is lovely, the descriptions vivid, and the extra bits the movies never show made the story that much more poignant. Love it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this reread of A Christmas Carol. It was just as great as I remembered and Tim Curry did an amazing job narrating.

Very happy I read this classic that has stood the test of time. It was interesting to compare it to the many movie versions.
