Original Read 4 ★

This was a reread for me and honestly it didn't hold up as I imagine.
I found that I started disliking Hunt and Bryce's relationship in this book. For the most part I felt like it didn't work or was forced, which was a surprised to me as I liked it when I originally read this book.

With the exception of the relationship and Hunt annoying me for parts of the book, I really liked the story that was written. Whilst this is meant to be a romance book as well i found that I much preferred the moments without. The mystery didn't hit as hard this time around as I knew what was happening but it still held up and was what kept me going. The side characters are also strong in this series and I'm happy that we get more POVs in Sky and Breath.

I do find it interesting how much an opinion can change between rereads. I remember very much enjoying this book but it was just a different experience the next time around.

crescent city was so good i just could not put it down, especially the whirlwind that is the last 200 pages!!!! the worldbuilding was amazing, the characters are so lovable, so many unexpected twists, and i love a good urban fantasy. i want to be bryce quinlan when i grow up

the writing style is super wordy. sometimes entire paragraphs are just one big run on sentence which was messing with me. and the constant male-female dichotomy language is annoying to me.
the first 10-20 pages is so packed with character intros and world building that it was very overwhelming but once i got through that it did get interesting. i like the overall story. i like the main characters sometimes but i have my issues with them too.
a couple of the big twists were predictable to me, predicted about 100 pages prior to but they were still good.
i’m not personally into the “love conquers all” and “everything happens for a reason” mentalities that come up quite a few times either.  Regardless of my personal issues with it though, it was still a pretty entertaining book.

Spoilerfree review:

Did not know anything about the book before I started it and was pleasantly surprised!

I usually don’t read urban fantasy but I loved the world and all the different magical inhabitants. The book has Fae, witches, demons, vampires, witches and much more. The main character has a strong personality and is pretty cunning. The plot kept me on my toes the whole time, since there was a big mystery to uncover. I think it became a little bit slow around the middle but it picked up again and even had me in tears a few times.

Recommend for all Romantasy fans :)
