there’s supposed to be an epic battle that kills a bunch of people and it lasts like two pages. the pacing of the adventure books in this series are way off.

also take a shot every time the word ozone is said

McGuire really knows how to write an amazing story, wow. I utterly love the character of Jack in the Wayward Children series; I relate to her so much, and that only developed further in this next book. The mental health rep, specifically OCD, is stellar as usual. I also greatly enjoyed knowing what happened after books 1 and 2 in the series with Jack, Jill, and Alexis. The queer rep is great in this one as usual too. The overly descriptive atmosphere of the Moors, and Jack and Alexis' entrance back to Eleanor West's home are done in such detail that you feel like you're taking this adventure with them. I hope we learn what happened with Dr. Bleak at the end, but I appreciated not being left with a lot of questions at the end of this one. Lastly, I loved the parts throughout the book, but especially at the beginning, of Jack's struggle with being in Jill's body and all that comes with that in relation to her being herself and her mental health. I hope we see more of Jack in later books!

This one didn't quite keep my attention and I'll be honest I don't really remember a lot besides
Jack and Jill switching bodies multiple times?

Jack and Jill are back in this book. Or Jack is back in Jill's body. Jack returns to Eleanor West's house in desperate need of help to get her body back. The adventure goes from there.

Loved this installment of the Wayward Children series, even though it will probably be the last adventure featuring Jack my beloved. I preferred the quest in this book to the one in Beneath the Sugar Sky, it felt more grounded and was darker. Wheelhouse items: resurrection gfs, body swapping, ragtag team, Gothic horror, tragedy, adventure, journey to another world.
