I liked this book, but at the same time I found the mystery a little confusing. There got to be too many people and I was confused over people's motives for murder. I am not sorry that I picked it up, but not sure if I would really recommend to others. The audio version was well done and I enjoyed the voice.

An interesting psychological thriller/historical fiction but slow in spots. I didn't love it.

Second time reading this book, and I did still enjoy it. After my first read, when I was a teenager, I declared this book to be my favourite I'd ever read - I just adored the concept of a murder story centred on Freud and Freudian psychoanalysis. On the second read, many years later, I don't think I'd still call it my favourite, but it was an exciting narrative nonetheless. Some of the storylines are fun, others quite disturbing - but it's all well-written and fairly easy to follow. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who dabbles in psychology for fun!

3.5- interesting story with good detail, although in several places it felt like the author was just trying to cram ideas from his own Shakespeare and Freud studies into the narrative. While the Freudian pieces usually linked back to the puzzle at hand, the analysis of Shakespeare didn't always clearly relate to the overarching story, and this slowed the pace significantly. The parts of the book that focused on the search for the offender were much more engaging.

I picked this book up because it looked like an interesting historical fiction, especially since it prominently features Dr. Freud during his visit to America a century ago. Dr. Stratham Younger, an emerging psychoanalyst following in Freud's footsteps, becomes entangled in an investigation of both a murder and an attempted murder. In the latter case, the victim suffers amnesia, and Younger hopes to use psychoanalysis to help her regain her memory. However, things are never that simple and soon Younger is in over his head.

Not a bad mystery, but not really my usual thing. It did seem to drag several times throughout, and sometimes I felt like there were just too many various twists - the author was always coming up with something.
