I really really enjoyed this book! I felt it expanded wonderfully on all the things that weren’t explained in the first book. I like how the characters ended up and how they grew throughout the book. I loved the story line and how the big problem was resolved. I also think this book was better than the first, The writing was just so much better!

I didn't want to put it down, even though it made me cry a few times. Outstanding!

This was amazing.

That is all.

2.5 I usually really enjoy Ashley Poston's writing and I liked the first book but there were just way too many plot holes/inexplicable resolutions in this one ):

I think this one was definitely better than the first, but it still really isn't that great, technically, but man is it fun.

This book was also very fast paced, which does make it very readable, but it almost didn't let you breathe. So much happened so quickly, and the fact that I read it in two days meant I got a bit of whiplash. But, I also read a four hundred page book in two days.

There were a couple new characters introduced, but they didn't really get much development, and I honestly kept getting some of the minor characters mixed up.

The four main characters did get more development, which was good, but Jax and Robb's relationship happened mostly off screen since there was a six month jump between the books. However, I did find their relationship much more realistic in this book, now that they've known each other six months. Also Jax is my favorite.

There were a lot of things that conveniently happened because the plot needed them to happen, and two characters magically do things that shouldn't be possible, just because it had to happen. It was a bit corny.

And I know I sound like I'm complaining a lot, because when you look at this book critically, it's not great. But I had so much fun reading it. I really liked the characters, and did get worried for them (even though I knew nothing bad was really going to happen to any of the main characters. Poston did scare me twice, and I thought I was going to have to trigger warning for bury your gays, but nope! They survive.) That's another point; this book is wonderfully queer. There's a m/m relationship at the front. There's an f/f relationship in the background. There's a couple characters who use they/them pronouns (very minor characters, but they are there).

Just overall, a fun series. I recommend going into it knowing you're not going to get some literary masterpiece, but a fun, maybe a little corny, sci-fi adventure with two compelling love stories (if you can get over the insta-love) and a big, dramatic story. Because it's dramatic to the point of melodrama, but that's a big part of what makes it so fun.

I hadn't realized that Ashley Poston was the author of this and The Princess and the Fangirl, both of which were released this summer. And it kind of showed that she had too much going on when she wrote Soul of Stars because there were So. Many. Typos.

Also, the characters kind of fell flat this time around and the plot just didn't quite feel right to me. Ashley should stick to cutesy contemporaries instead of sci-fi.
