Reading 'Holding up the Universe' was a challenge. Keeping track of the characters, why so many? And the pacing - so slow and predictable. I'm unsure why there were so many different characters. Was it an attempt for us to relate to Jack's prosopagnosia? I'm unsure. Also, some of the scenes with Libby were cringeworthy in themselves. I found the characters had zero chemistry and felt as if they were forced to end up together. I had previously read and loved 'All the Bright Places,' so this book was lacking in comparison. I finished the book feeling dissatisfied and disappointed.

Warm and heartfelt story of two teenagers dealing with their own issues: fatphobia and not recognizing peoples faces. Really good story, easy read, and fun descriptions!

3 stars purely because I cringed quite a bit throughout reading this with all the cheesy language (who calls women “chicks” in the 21st century?). It’s a good story, and I enjoyed the sentiment but there were parts that really took a while to get going.
Picking this back up to read felt like a chore for the first half of the book until things started to find direction.
