Sweet and nice - but almost to the point of being preachy. Got to love a good dog story though.
First let me say that this book is marketed as a Christian novel - shame on Thomas Nelson Publishers. You can't take a book with four letter words, drinking, and fornication (none of these was represented as sinful) and then toss a few vague sentences about God every 20 pages and call it a 'Christian' book!!!

Popsugar Reading Challenge 2024: Prompt Eight - "A book by a blind or visually impaired author"
I’m quite surprised that the Hallmark Channel hasn’t scooped up this novel for a movie adaptation. It would fit perfectly into the dog-themed slop that they throw on Hulu for your Sunday afternoon nap noise.
The writing in this novel is poor, and with that, the story is even worse. It's poor enough that Betty White, who read part of the audiobook and apparently contributed to the writing, couldn’t save it. Overall, it felt rushed; the story jumps fast from points in time, resulting in strange dialogue and unrealistic events. Fortunately, this was a short novel with a predictable story, so there wasn’t much of an issue finishing it. I refuse to DNF, especially with this challenge.

I knew I got lucky when I found this book at a library sale, but didn't know how lucky until I read the incredible story of Brenden and his guide dog Nelson. In these pages I experienced one of the purest forms of joy: the bond between a man and his dog. Even as a sighted person, I could relate and sympathize with Brenden's struggle. As a dog owner, I shared in his love and trust in Nelson. This book is a light and quick read, but also fulfilling and deeply moving.
I listened to this to hear Betty White’s voice and because I needed something cheesy to clear some of the darker books from my head. I actually learned quite a bit, and I’m sure this could be made into a Lifetime movie if it hasn’t been already.
Okay, Some Pros:
-It's a dog book.
-That dog is a labrador (named Nelson).
-Some chapters are Nelson's POV.
-Very informative.
-Betty White is somehow a part of it.
Cons:
-It's kinda really short (only 230 pages!)
-There's not enough chapters in Nelson's POV.
-I barely cried.
-A lot of praying.
-The ending was kinda predictable.
Summary?
Summary:
The book wasn't bad, but I just didn't fall in love with it like past dog books I've read. A good dog book usually connects with me, there's tears, there's joy, there's more tears and then there's four or plus stars. If I had to put in amongst other dogs books it's above Marley and Me (cause boo) but also far below A Dog's Purpose (love). I think I'm going to hold onto Together for a bit, if only because I think my Grandma would like it.

I read this to see if I should recommend it to a dog-loving friend after seeing Betty White on Ellen. I was looking forward to seeing more written from the dog's point-of-view, so it didn't quite meet expectations, but was a decent read nonetheless.
