I found this book absolutely fascinating. It opened up to me the history and many facets of life in the “Middle World” from Istanbul to the Himalayan mountains - a vast region of the world that I have been vastly ignorant of.

I highly recommend this book if you are looking expand your awareness and understanding of the Arabic and Islamic history and the ebb and flow of their encounters with the Western world throughout the centuries. Absolutely and enlightening book.
