This book is different than Notaro's other books. Instead of short stories in memoir style, this was a fiction book. I felt like it was "fiction based on real life" because it was about a reporter moving from Arizona to Washington.

The story was pretty good. I read the book in just a few days because it was a fast read. The same hilarious, weird sense of humor that Notaro's other books had were in this book too. It was good!

Notaro's first novel is ok. Her autobiographical stuff is much funnier, even though this is similar. The only reason I didn't finish it was because I was listening to an audio book version, and I can't stand audio books. It probably would have been funnier if I'd read it myself.

I almost didn't finish this book because it started out kind of slow. I abandoned it for a couple of months, but I'm so glad I came back to it! It picked up fast and then I couldn't put it down! It's hilarious! The only thing that drove me crazy...I hate being left with an unanswered question!! ;)

Needed a light, funny read. Some witty phrasing but overall not as funny as Jen Lancaster. Seemed to be trying to hard at points.

This was a cute quick read, I enjoyed it.

Awesome awesome title. This book didn't live up to the expectations I had for it, but that's OK.

The story was rather slow in the beginning, and I felt the farewell party scene was very forced (as were certain other scenes later on), but it did pick up steam around chapter 3.

Charlie wasn't quite as fleshed out as I would like, and I found some of Maye's behaviors a little too odd to be plausible (I still don't buy the rationale behind the holiday sweater). Rowena was way too two-dimensional for my taste. I find it hard to believe she'd be able to maintain her social position in such a small town if she really was so sour all the time.

For some reason, I kept missing details--I had to keep going back and rereading earlier sections. That's an unusual thing for me. Despite the drawbacks, I did enjoy this novel. It was a fun, quick read. It would be perfect for a weekend trip.

I really, really, really wanted to like this book, but it just never made it out of second gear for me.

Still one of the best title out there.
