At first I just thought this book was slow and that the author's style just wasn't for me, but by the end I wasn't even rooting for any of the characters and was just annoyed by them.

Review: This Ravenous Fate by Hayley Dennings
I loved the concept for this story but not necessarily the execution. 1920s NYC with vampires already had me sold. But then you add in childhood best friends turned enemies because one of them was turned into a vampire and years long sapphic angst, I was SO ready to be obsessed. I think my issue with loving this book was Dennings’ writing style. The way she wrote action sequences just felt off? It’s hard to explain but any time the characters were doing more than standing around talking, the writing became hard to follow. I also think the pacing of the story wasn’t enough given the stakes… there seemed to be a lot of possible danger and our characters were just sort of strolling around Harlem.
I think Dennings made a fantastic choice in setting the novel against the prohibition era, and also using the tense racial relationships to add more historical realism. It really makes the reader look at the 1920s era with a different perspective.
I’m not sure if I will read the sequel, but I’m not completely against it, I just don’t feel as invested as I would like to be.
I tried to keep going so I could add another title to my reading goals for the year, but just couldn’t do it. The whole thing is too half-baked, with unconvincing character drama and poor writing.
I didn't hate this book, but I didn't really like it either.
For the majority of the book, I was bored and it didn't grab my attention at all. It felt so long and I do think there could've been 100 pages less. Now the mystery wasn't that mysterious to me. This might also be the reason why I found the book a bit boring. As a reader, I wish I could've helped with solving the mystery, but there wasn't really much to solve myself.
I did love the romance. It's rare that I see something advertised as enemies to lovers and the love interests actually hate each other, and are technically enemies. I do wish they "fell" for each other earlier since they did go from enemies to lovers really quickly.
This book might be worth the read if you're into vampires (especially wlw, enemies to lovers, vampires)
Thank you, NetGalley, for letting me read this ARC in exchange for an honest review

DNF'ed at 20%. Felt like it needed way more editing and more adding to it.
I couldn't picture the physical scenes or characters because they were not described most of the time. Character dialogue felt wooden and boring. As soon as the mystery was established I could see where it was going. And as a final little annoyance, in one scene the main character was described as having gloves on - a page later she 'wiped her sweaty hands on her skirt' and no mention of her taking the gloves off.
