not bad and fairly entertaining. it was fast paced and kept the attention. it tried to throw in some curve balls and didn't utterly fail.

and somewhere here the positives end. because the one character in the novel had no "character" or background. he is searching for his wife (who by the way is a horrible person, but I guess that's what you get when you combine all stereotypes of female reporters ever used on TV). he finds his wife and stumbles across crimes of all sorts. and then it ends. in an unnecessarily over the top confrontation in my opinion.

I admit that I am spoiled with my crime novels. They have complex and tormented detectives, cities that act not only as a scenery but as a canvas for social interactions, deeper social connections, secondary characters that can stand their own. And an awesome plot on top of it all. And this novel had.. if none, very few of the elements to make it a good novel.

but it was ok. it served its purpose. It got me through an insomniac night and I didn't want to throw the kindle out of the window. So, I will count this as a plus. and this, as an "it was ok" book.

This book grabbed my attention, and kept me interested until the end.

A nice plot with good character development of all characters. I could relate to the main character's plight and what he was going through, and the story was easy to follow. There was a nice balance between character development and action - the story moved at a good pace throughout. The ending was a surprise and not as I expected.

I would recommend this book to readers who like suspense. I've not read any other books by the author Simon Wood so far, however, I would certainly read other books from him.
