Great concept but I'm not really in the mood for non-fiction right now. Maybe later in the summer.

Not a trauma informed book. There should also be a disclaimer early on that the author is NOT a mental health professional and got her PHD in comparative lit. Instead there is a blaring message in the first chapter that this book can cure so many things, potentially including chronic pain.

This book also doesn’t cite sources and could severely use it. It is not grounded in research. For example, the author discusses a story of Persephone, Pluto, and Kore which aren’t even the consistent Roman and Greek names. She also makes claims about the story and doesn’t cite how she came to her claims.

Some of the exercises might be useful, but safety needs to be ensured first.

Her tone/voice was one step away from 'hey girl,' and 25% in and we were still at her justifying her premise... which is basically 'The Secret, by way of 50 Shades'?

I just had to put it down and was thankful it was a library read vs a purchase, otherwise I'd be even more annoyed at this waste of time and energy. I wish I had more to say, but it was just... blather?

Every therapist and kinkster I know hates this book. The cover and title are so promising, but it’s full of misinformation, shaming, appropriation, homophobia, and Sunday school approach to trauma.

This book proposes some very interesting ideas. I enjoyed the "kink" analogy but I did find that some of the concepts might have been explained (and therefore adopted) more easily using different analogies. I don't think the concepts in this book would be easily grasped or accepted by many people.
