About the nuclear bombing of Nagasaki- a dark stain on American history not discussed near often enough. My heart grieves while reflecting on this book, the community, and the families and individuals devastated by this military attack on non-combatants.

I am thankful to Taniguchi Sumiteru, Do-oh Mineko, Nagano Atsuko, Yoshida Katsuji, Wada Koichi, and other hibakusha for their bravery in sharing their experiences. And to Susan Southard for taking those stories and creating this careful accounting of the event and it’s long reaching impacts.

I wish this would be required reading at schools, so that all could understand why we cannot allow this to happen again.
