Wow. This hit hard. It’s not difficult to figure out what religion this is based on, especially if you’re from the UK, but being atheist myself I didn’t realise quite how bad it was. Of course, this is a fiction book, but you can tell it’s rooted in experience. I can only hope that not all of the experiences were ‘lived’.

Such a good read, highly recommend. Beautifully written, too. Fair few sentences I highlighted and just wrote ‘love how this is written’. No commentary, no discourse, no deeper meaning, just bloody beautiful.

Really really enjoyed this. I haven't really heard anyone talking about it, but I could not recommend more if you find the whole concept of cults/extreme religious practises interesting. I must say it is a truly heartbreaking read in so many ways, but also an incredible story of perseverance and hope. Chapman's writing is really beautiful and I will definitely be reading her debut.
