Pretty dece. A tight, action-packed thriller. Some of the prose was fairly clunky and blunt, but I still read the whole thing in a day, so I can’t complain.

I found this book in a bargin bin at Chapters. For a couple books, I picked it up. That was almost 10 years ago and I remember the moment clearly. Why? Because that was my introduction to Ken Follett and what has become a passion for anything he writes.

This books sucks you in right away. And you don't have to be a war enthusiast to enjoy it. My favourite aspect? It wasn't taken from the side of the ever popular Brits, Americans, or Russians. I find a lot of WWII books always seem to forget there were others fighting in the war as well. This story, from the French Resistance, was amazing. It gave some insight into occupied France and how the French faught back (just another misconception that the French were weak).

Even though it's been years since I read this book, I will always remember it as my first.

Good book, but tought to compare to Follett's Pillars of The Earth which is outstanding. The book has some - "Oh Come on" moments but overall a good summer read for a touch of history (book is historical fiction) and a decent novel.
