Loved sharing this with my kids. One found it boring, but the other got past the older style of writing and enjoyed it.
Glad to finally get a chance to catch up on my classics and listen to this one. A fun collection of stories that definitely give you a different perspective on Mowgli and the jungle that Disney didn't add in ;) A good quick read!
This is a fun read, though a little different than I was expecting from the Disney movie (it's easy to see the parallels, but the movie is very different from the book).
The format is that of anthology, with sorry stories. The first three follow Mowgli and the last three each follow a different, totally unrelated character. I enjoyed each story, though I found that set up a little odd.
I read the edition specially illustrated by Minalima with my four and two year old and they had a lot of fun with it. I would definitely recommend that illustrated edition, especially for kids!

An interesting collection of short stories and poetry all centered on the central theme of animals and man in British-controlled India
Further, the whole book has a semi-biblical undertone; it's hard to explain, but you'll see it if you read it.

The artwork and interactive elements within the book. It is a beautiful book to look at and fun to read. I read it to my children and they looked forward to each and every picture. They got really excited for the next interactive and would wait patiently while I read. It made it fun and more involved to have these features.
The stories. I've never read the original Jungle Book before. I was amazed! I get where the movie came from, but it only takes bits and pieces from the original and weaves it into its own story. I liked the originals more. The extra tales that aren't included in the movie were fun to read because I knew nothing about them. Classic tales that my children and I all enjoyed.
The poems after each chapter. Not only were they surrounded in artwork, but also a fun additional to the story.
Dislikes:
The tissue paper or cardboard protecting the interactive elements would slip out most of the time and it was annoying having to readjust it, but it was good to have it there to protect those parts of the book as well as the printed pages.
Enjoyable read. When my kids are begging me to read the next chapter in a book that I like reading, it is definitely a four star read and this was one of those books.
Thank you for a beautiful, classic and enjoyable read.

didn't care for it. it was decipherable but just uninteresting.
Rikki-tikki-tavi is the only story in the Jungle Book really worth reading. But I somehow lived life for the last twenty years thinking Rikki-tikki-tavi died at the end. Why did I think that? Did I not read the last page in middle school? Spoiler alert for all the seventh graders: he lives.
The rest of the stories are overlong, but nice in summary. Mongoose fights some snakes. Seals are clubbed. Elephants dance. Mowgli is boring.
It's like I got high and wrote a haiku.

Entretenido, te da una perspectiva nueva del reina animal.
This is not your Jungle Book movie.
The first story is what the movie was based off of. A man-cub raised in the jungle by hunters and hunted by one lame footed tiger.
The second story is about a white seal who finds out that his kin are often killed by humans for their skins and goes on a five year search for a save haven for them to go without mankind.
The third story is about a mongoose, Rikkitikki who is adopted into a human family and fights snakes to protect them.
The fourth story is about elephants who have been broken down by humans and the elephants in the wild doing their dance.
The fifth story is about a group of animals who help humans fight wars and each of the roles they play.
These are a group of stories told in a way that shows humans and their relationship with animals- from the past to.. maybe the 1900s. Things have changed, and our earth is in great danger. I really enjoyed Kipling's personification of the animals. I didn't like the stories about the elephants because in real life, the practices are very very cruel and inhumane. And you just know that the little boy is leading all these humans to kill of or capture all the elephants that he witnessed dance- even though that was a very special thing he got to see. I liked Rikkitikki's story. I thought he was quite cute and was fairly accurate in the mongoose vs. cobra fights.
Overall I can see why this book is enjoyed by many and I think that it'd be good to read to children- even if the vocabulary has changed since then.

Really fascinated by Kipling's writing style! His classic Jungle Book story really intrigued me. This edition also included short stories such as the white seal and Rikki tivi tavi.
