"We've got four hours, half a tank of gas, and a contest to slay. So tell me: are you ready to hijack the Pumpkin, Princess?"

I'm half my father. Half my hero. And I am half my mother. Half soft sighs and half sharp edges. And if they can be Carminder and Amara - then somewhere in my blood and bones, I can be too. I'm the lost princess. I'm the villain of my story and the hero. Part of my mom and part of my dad. I am a fact of the universe. Possible and impossible. I am.nkt no one. I am my parents' daughter. Then I realise - that in this universe, they're alive too. They are alive through me.

Silly, geeky, cute, and very, very cheesy. Very light reading and the perfect distraction fodder for my last week of maternity leave before baby comes.

More to come.

"If you believe in yourself and have a few good friends, then you can do anything. You can be anything."

It's a good listen (since I listened to it's audiobook in Audible although I have a physical copy of this book for years, I never reached out for it) to pass on time. If I was a teen or early 20s, I would have loved this so much because I myself, am or was a geek (? because I can't say I read fantasy novels a lot these days anymore). I thoroughly enjoyed listening and imagining the story but I feel like it just stops there. I won't be thinking much about it afterwards.

Would definitely recommend this book to my teen cousins though!

Elle grew up watching Starfield with her late father, it's still the connection she shares with him. When she comes across a contest for the new Starfield movie, she knows she has to enter and win, unless her step-sisters get in the way. Darien, who plays the new Carmindor (something he has always wanted), has been written off as just another heart throb. An anonymous set of texts will change things for both main characters. Geekerella is a modern day retelling of the classic fairytale, Cinderella.

💭 T H O U G H T S

The whole reason I picked up this book was to fit the "fairytale retelling" prompt for a TBR challenge I was participating. Fairytales are not typically my cup of tea, so I chose this one since it seemed like a quick, easy read - and it was. Told in alternating perspectives, there isn't a whole lot of surprise, in fact, the plot is quite predictable (especially if you know the story of Cinderella), with typical YA romance vibes. Of course, I wasn't a fan of the insta-love aspect, but there were other things I really liked. Firstly, the fangirl, sci-fi and cos-play additions were a lot of fun, and the showcase of female friendship was well drawn out. Overall, the plot is quite obvious and a little cheesy; it is still a light and fun read.
