This book is exactly what Lily describes it to be: a raw and unfiltered autobiography written for her children to read when they are older. It's the "Lily's version" of her life. The audiobook is read by her (which I love!) and it gives the text added depth and emotion that is hard to convey through writing. The book is very honest, and doesn't shy away from even the harder subjects like drugs and sexual abuse.

I don't think the reader is meant to feel sorry for her, nor is she trying to apologise for the things she's done. She's just telling what actually happened. Why she did what she did. Like I said, it's a book for her kids. Not necessarily for the rest of the public.

I listened to this after reading the Woman in me by Britney Spears, and I cannot help but feel visceral anger towards the way the press and the entertainment industry treat (especially young) women. It makes my blood boil. I really hope the stories of these brave women will bring about a much needed change.

 The Details:
 Narrated by author
Unabridged

This was such an insightful read, especially after recently reading the fiction story of Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson.

I've always like Lily Allen's music, so I enjoyed hearing about her life - a lot events I never knew had happened - and the honesty of it all was so vulnerable.

The audiobook was great. Lily's speaking voice is so easy to listen to.

This is everything the media left out. All the things that are important to her life she's laying it bare.

She seems like a "what you see is what you get" kind of person, as well as being someone who doesn't always get it right but figures it out eventually and then takes responsibility and makes amends as needed. I enjoy her music and wish her well.

I enjoyed Lily Allen's autobiography and raced through it in a matter of days. I would have liked to see more material on her career in the music industry, especially in more recent years - there was some, but it was balanced out with lots of content about her upbringing and personal life. That's just me though! This book touches on a lot of heavy topics so definitely check the content warnings if you'd like to know.

Absolutely incredible, it was funny and honest and open and raw, heartbreaking and sad and shocking all at once. I loved it, and I feel privileged to have listened to it.
