i really liked this! it looks at the science behind our brains’ tendency to discount subtraction or removing as a problem’s answer. we default to adding and expanding even when it’s not the best option. i think this one will stick with me for a while. it also pointed me to maya lin’s vietnam war memorial, which i'm grateful for! incredible design.

New ideas always seem to be additive. We get more of whatever we are thinking about. What if we considered *taking away*? And what if we did this in *addition* to our normal way of thinking? This book does a fantastic job of showing how this has been done before and how we can incorporate it into our regular thought process.

A novel and interesting idea that should be written in an article, not as a book...

Key take away: subtracting is usually not visible and probably won't help us prving out work/worth in a group/team. That's why we tend to add by default.

Useful book that explores the art of subtraction as a compliment to addition. Improvement can come through subtraction.
