Loved it!

Loved this book. The spice is great, the story line is great. My only complaint is that I was CONSTANTLY asking why and what throughout the entire book...that and the MMC was infuriatingly dense about anything requiring genuine empathy. Not an ass, just dense af.

I was so frustrated with both the MMC and the MFC. If they would just communicate clearly! This was a very dark book, but I’m still rooting for the two to be together.

It isnt 100% necessary but read lady of darkness series before this and you wont regret it! Both series are part of the same universe and there are overlaps of details which I found fantastic.

This was kinda chunky for the 1st book in a 4 book series, but it really set the expectations. We were given great background of the world, the political multi layers of their realm, the core characters, the villains and why our FMC is thrown into the mix.

I HATE the MMC Theron, you cannot give me like 60% of him being heartless, controlling and emotionally abusive to then try to have me fancy him in the next 40%. I have never given the evils to pages for so long because I refuse for this little sh*t to be left of the hook, he better beg for redemption in the next book!

The FMC is bewildering and veryyyy chaotic, but I’m here for it. She breaks the MMC’s boundaries of control at every turn, she comes across naive but fierce, confused but cunning. She’s a walking contradiction, she also feels like she doesnt belong but maybe it’s because she doesnt

Tessa is so different than other FMC’s. It’s a huge relief. I cannot wait for her chaos to reign. There are a lot of confusing elements in the story that I’m sure will be explained later. I also feel like the MMC is truly morally gray, you question his motives the entire series. I hope we get some serious groveling in the next book because he is truly irredeemable in my eyes after he locked her in the wine cellar. I can’t wait to see what she does next and I hope she puts Axel and Luka through hell too.

The emotional abuse in this is incredibly uncomfortable. There were times where it seemed self aware of that and that there might be some sort of statement about it, but it never came.

I loved Lady of Darkness, but the start of this new series is tough to read.
