AMAZING. so many quotable passages i felt the urge to highlight on my kindle instantly. the way chanel miller wrote about her experiences was so relatable it was refreshing. her story didn’t end with her assault, nor was it tied together with a happy ever after when the court proceedings were all said and done. there were parts in the memoir that made me gag, that filled my entire body with goosebumps and phantom pains, but i’d read it again and relive every emotion in a heartbeat!

This is a book that deserves all the stars, all of the glowing reviews, all of the conversations.

It is not a book that everyone will be able to read. It is a story of trauma. Chanel does not hold anything back. But those of us who can read it, will be changed and amazed by it.

This is often a harrowing, raw read, but at the same time, I was astonished by the clarity and beauty of Chanel’s writing. You put down this book feeling that you have seen her completely, all that she is - her creativity, her quirkiness, her old soul, her sense of humour, her fragility, her brokenness, her strength, her fury, her hope.

It is riveting and often heartbreaking, and incredibly, I finished this book feeling buoyed up by how remarkable some humans can be.
