One of the best most poignant books I've read. Told through the eyes of death make it a compelling story that I was unable to put down and read it constantly through tears, laughs and wonder.

More historical fiction than fantasy, but I added the fantasy since the book is narrated by death.

What can I say about this book? It was so real. Everyone in it was like someone I really knew. I laughed with them, I cried with them. I felt with them. At times it was hard to read because I cared so much. But it was worth it. There are important things in this book. Things people need to know. Not just about the Holocaust, although that's important too. Things about ourselves. The great heights and depths that human beings are capable of.

At first I didn't get some of the narration choices and writing style, but once I warmed up to that, it became a beautiful and emotional roller coaster of a story.

it's interesting because one of the reviews I just read said not to read this if you want a fast read. However, I read it in two days. I think that part of its power was in the foreshadowing and that made it, if not a "fast read", very hard to put down because you wanted to find out exactly how things happened. I can see how some readers wouldn't like the gimmicky-ness of Death's ***Pointed and Often Bolded Interjections***, but I really like that sort of thing.

4 stars. Beautiful and well written story. I didn’t love it like I thought I would but it was still a very good read. I think my issues with it were that it took so long for me to really get into it and it didn’t always hold my attention. I loved how atmospheric this was and I thought the plotting device of the story being told from Death’s point of view was interesting. Liesel was a wonderful and likable character. I liked her character growth throughout. The ending had me a bit emotional even though I knew it was coming. I’m glad that I’ve finally read this.
