As intelligent and warm as the previous instalments. Would have liked more action for Joan and hope she makes further appearances.

I love this series where HM the Queen investigates crimes. This one is set in the 1950s, so the Queen is quite young compared to in the other books in the series, and there’s a different sidekick.

This is a cosy easy read with an intriguing double mystery (neither of which I guessed until they were revealed). I hope, despite the sad recent death of the Queen, the author finds a way to continue this series. I’m firmly a fan and I highly recommend this series.

Thanks to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Another enjoyable mystery in the series. At first I was a bit confused by going back in time, but I got into the story quickly and enjoyed the origin story of the Queen adding an APS to her sleuthing.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and to the publisher for the opportunity to review this book in its audiobook prerelease! I am not sure how but I totally hadn’t realized that this was a series, and OMG if now I don’t have to go out and read the first three books in this series! (I am already starting The Windsor Knot)
I absolutely love the Queen’s character, she feels at the same time so real and also perfectly exaggerated to play up the camp of the premise, and her banter with Joan is so well written! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and also the books to come after this!
