This is one of my favourite KaraLynne Mackrory Pride and Prejudice renditions and it's one I continuously come back to as a comfort read whenever I start slumping or need a pick-me-up.
Mackrory just has a way of giving voice to both Darcy and Lizzy that you can't help but root for their eventual connection. She is a master of the slow-burn romance, doling out the perfect doses of angst between the two without overdoing it.
The plot follows Lizzy and Darcy post the Netherfield stay, but prior to the ball, where Darcy comes across Lizzy while gallivanting on his horse in the wilderness of Hertfordshire and aids her when she is unfortunately injured. This changes the events that happen afterwards, such that Lizzy begins to feel for Darcy before his untimely departure from Netherfield and is heartbroken once he leaves.
The characterization, plot and pacing are exquisite in this variation. We are graced with one of my favourite versions of Mr. Bennet, where his indolence is a mask for a good reason, a markedly less impressionable Bingley, a delightful friendship explored between Georgiana and Lizzy, and an absolutely dreadful Caroline who most definitely gets her deserved comeuppance.
Wickham is vile and is dealt with accordingly (and most effectively), Lady Catherine is most conniving and deceitful and is also dispatched with ease, and we eventually get to HEA that we the readers have eagerly anticipated from the start.
If you're looking for an emotionally charged but feel-good historical romance of the Austen-inspired variety, you are sure to enjoy this one.

The head hopping is intolerable.
I’ve only read up to chapter 2 and yet Darcy is already being charming and affable to Lizzy. Truly disconcerting.

I liked this one. It starts right after elizabeth and Jane get back from netherfield. It was fun seeing Elizabeth and Darcy flirt and I seriously laughed out loud when wickham basically got killed off. I enjoyed how she would use a lot of the same conversations from the book but have different people say them. But I have to admit it broke my heart a little when bingley told Jane how ardently he admired and loved her.

There were parts of this that were a bit silly, sometimes people seemed out of character (particularly Darcy), and the plot went some fairly outlandish directions (particularly with Wickham's plot). It was a fun read, though, once I accepted its idiosyncrasies. Not my favorite by this author, but worth reading.
