This book does a great job talking about power dynamics, and how some people cannot view life beyond their experiences.

This book was impossible to put down. It was fast-paced with flawed and realistic characters  that readers grow and change  alongside them over the course of the book. The switching of perspectives keeps up the cliffhangers between chapters and divides attention between the relationships, thoughts, and feelings of all the characters. The book is extremely graphic, but just as well-written and reflective.

Sutherland’s writing is exceptional, it’s gruesome and visceral - the type of writing the crawls inside of your chest and sits in your throat. Such an original take on a modern witch story, it was dark and gothic and featured some loveable unhinged lesbians. But most importantly it’s a story of rage and agency. My only issue is that this could easily categorised as adult horror - this book deals with some heavy themes and I recommend for ages 16+

oh im so glad I finished this book, I loved the ending so bloody much!!! The only reason it's not a full 5 stars is because I found Zaras story the most compelling in th beginning but then felt she got sort of put to the side and it became predominantly Jude's story. I found Jude loveable eventually but difficult to connect with her for a long while hence the drop in stars, her story did eventually become great though and the take with her family was very Bella Mackie's How To Kill Your Family.

Wow, this wasn't what I expected. It was way darker than I anticipated, but so good.

The book took a little bit to get going but once it did it didn't stop. I adored the dynamic between Emer (a witch/cursewriter), Jude ( cursed and a billionaire's daughter) and Zara (wants to bring her sister back from dead). Three women thrown together in pretty shitty circumstances who ultimately band together when Emer's clients start turning up dead. The book is quite dark and has a focus on male entitlement and misogyny and the impact on the women in the story. The three women are fierce, well-rounded characters and really carry the narrative with their determination to catch the killer and meet their own goals.

There was more gore and violence than I was expecting, paricularly violence (including death) against women.

The beginning of the book started out a bit slow for me and was difficult to get into with switching between 3 POVs. But once I got further in the book things started to flow and I became invested in the story.

The 3 main characters were easy to differentiate between while I was reading and it was easy to get invested in their storylines. I did not see things taking the dark turn that they did.

I loved these characters. How much I enjoyed this book was surprising to me as I did not like House of Hollow.

I think Zara was my favorite, but I also loved the other two. I was about to be so mad if the ship didn’t go canon by the end.

This book is for the grotesque girlies that love reckless teenage girls fucking with demons and necromancy. The aesthetic of the girlies + the atmosphere *chefs kiss*.

I wish this wasn’t the end, but it seems to be😪. I have Krystal’s writing a second chance and I will be giving it a third, this time to try to exceed what this book did.

I’m gonna miss these characters I fear ☹️

P.S. we all need a Bael in our lives..
