My first Atwood: delightful, whimsical, comically vengeful and wholesome. Even as a novelized retelling, Shakespeare never fails .

Hag-seed is a retelling of The Tempest where the main character is not only living the plot of the play, but is attempting to see it through to its natural conclusion by directing a prison version of The Tempest at the same time.

It's been long enough since I've seen/read the play that I didn't immediately know what Felix's plan was, until about half-way through when it had rehashed enough of the plot that I remembered the rest.. The point of the book isn't to shock or wow the reader. It's to dive into the play and it's themes and potential presentation, the same way the prisoners do.

It was entertaining, but not amazing.

Deeply enjoyed this retelling of THE TEMPEST. It tracks well onto Shakespeare’s original without feeling forced.

A little anti -climatic and some loose ends. I enjoyed spending this much time with The Tempest.
