You are right. What the fuck.

WHAT THE FUCK.

Ok, I... am just gonna start now, ok?

I tried to read this book first when I got it, but I gave up to easily and I just don't want to start SIX OF CROWS just yet so I keep reading books I DNF.

So, as you can see in the Goodreads summary, this book is about a girl who easily emphasize with serial killers and when one serial killers comes into her home she flips out, does some research and bähm.

This girl is Lane, clearly a sociopath with a weird obsession. Serial killers. She does not show emotions easily and she is weird af as one of my friends would say. AF AF AF AF AF AF AF AF AF. It's hard to really get into herself as a character. She never shows any emotions, she often says that her sister's a whore and gives "regular handjobs"... It's just that her, let me just claim it as it is, brutal honesty is disturbing. When she had sex with this guy, she shrugged, said literally whatever and moved on. It was just sex, not a big business.

She was always in the spotlight, like ALWAYS what I get, really I get it, she is the main character but DAMN DANIEL, I just wanted to smash her "I know everything because I am weird AF" attitudish face against a fucking wall. I really disliked her as a character.

There were two things that kept me going: The very fast writing and the killer. The author introduced a few characters of whom i thought might be the killer but

WHAT THE FUCK.

I did not see this coming. Btw I really don't get this Damn Daniel, but I saw it while watching Ellen and now it's fun, but whatevs.

The book left me with one emotion:

And because it's not enough:

Yeah...

Most of this book was just 2.5 stars. There were parts I enjoyed, the MC trying to decide if she wanted to be a killer and her interacting with a killer and THAT ENDING! It was so good and so unexpected! But there were parts I didn't, there were way too many times she brought up her sisters sex life and how she is a slut, it did nothing for the story. But was it worth it to wade through a mediocre ya thriller to get to an awesome ending?

This book was so poorly written that I didn’t make it even half way through before stopping. The main character is your stereotypical “I’m not like other girls” character with a superiority complex. She’s constantly slut-shaming her own sister in the grossest ways, and hitting the reader over the head with how smart she is every five sentences. The writing style was not enjoyable, regardless of the actual content. I felt as if I was reading a bad wattpad story and I hated every moment of it.

Arghhhh I honestly don't know too well how I would rate this book. Its not the best book ever and I did have some problems with it. First off, I've only seen the first 4 episodes of Dexter (which I didn't really like btw) and it was so similar to it. Second of all, sometimes Lane's thoughts got on my nerves. I kind of found her annoying. And as much as I hated certain parts of this book, it was still entertaining enough for me to keep reading it. I wanted to know who the Decapitator was. I thought I knew who it was, then I was like WHAAAT!!??!? So towards the end the book got really good, I just wish it had been a better written story since the beginning. Quick read though.

Oh. My. Goodness.

Lane has all these urges and dark thoughts that she keeps bottled up, and even when she thinks horrible ways to get back at the bad guys she controls her urges, and herself. She makes them pay not by just killing them, but by punishing them and then giving them over to the authorities. I've read a lot of reviews comparing this book to Dexter, and this could be very well true, I wouldn't doubt it, but since I have never watched Dexter myself I can't exactly say anything about it. All I can say is that no idea is new, and I enjoyed the MC's detached way of analyzing situations. If this is any way like Dexter, then sign me up cause that is something I'd be interested in watching.

So I enjoyed the idea of being inside a suppressed killer's mind, though I have read other books who have gone about the idea a bit more colorfully (for example, [b:The Naturals|13597723|The Naturals (The Naturals, #1)|Jennifer Lynn Barnes|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1374862751s/13597723.jpg|19187762]). Yes, there was a bit too much slut shaming for anybody's taste. Lane rips her little sister to shreds, which is in poor taste. She is also very detached when it comes to her own love life. I kind of see where the guy who has a crush on her is coming from, a little, because she is frank and different, but she isn't warm at all. That relationship is not lasting at all. He was wonder struck, she was bored.

Every vigilante does the job because it’s the right thing to do. With great power comes great responsibility and all that jazz, but Lane? She just gets a kick out of it... until things start to get extremely serious. One of the biggest serial murderers out there starts getting a liking to her and paying her attention. One of the most incredible things about this title is that I didn't really know who the "decapitator" was. I didn't figure it out before the big reveal and that hardly happens. So bravo for the author's skills.

Killer Instinct was a nice afternoon read, in a dark room, by candlelight. It is both creepy and captivating. It has some flaws, some issues, but it is still interesting. Lane is a blank canvas who is trying to figure out why her mind works so well with the darker side of the rainbow, and we have no choice but to be captivated by her seriously screwed up thoughts.

I was genuinely surprised at that ending. And it takes a lot for me to be shocked! Can't wait for the next one. Will be purchasing soon.
