The derision is unwarranted IMHO.
The tone of this book could be described
as painfully tender,
without flourish or flattery,
just some small banter,
beating full of hope and sorrow.
Yes I think I will describe it that way.
My mood went downhill when this book ended,
but it went downhill like a fun toboggan.
