Wild that Donna Tart would write an entire book about artistic subjectivity and then spend the last 30 pages telling you exactly how to feel about it.

I found this book very compelling before the time jump - afterwards, I found myself frustrated with Theo’s character and less invested in the story. The prose is beautiful, but the plot tends to either drag on or rush through important moments.

Tartt is an extremely talented writer and The Goldfinch is simultaneously intriguing and heartbreaking. However, the long descriptions and philosophizing are just not for me. The book could've been a lot shorter if some of the fat had been cut out. Still an enjoyable read though.
