Punpun's relationship with Sachi comes together then quickly falls apart. Toshiki's religion begins to take shape as he becomes more prominent in the series. The real crux in this volume is the disruptive return of an old face, who is a lot worse off than Punpun could have imagined.

Sachi, Seki, Toshiki, and some others had great development in this volume, but the real stars are Aiko and Punpun. Punpun had some fantastic character transformations in this volume alone, and Aiko's situation is so dark and twisted; it is amazingly heart-wrenching. The call backs to the first volume were great (e.g. passing Sachi by). I didn't recognize them the first time I read the series, so that was a pretty cool find.
