Surprising how much horror this series can inspire. This sequel was grim and emotional, though the characters remain consistently great.

I’m re reading this series as a 26 yr old, it was my favorite growing up!! I gave the first book 5 stars mostly because it was just such a great reading experience but the story really captivated me still! This one felt like an exact copy and paste of the first one but also had much less,,, anything?  the characters all felt quite flat in this one and it felt like there was less growth on all of their parts. I also personally really dislike the trope of the hero being magically gifted at something without training so that part knocked a star off for me. Which is totally a me thing but *shrug* I am gonna go ahead and keep reading though!

I'm really enjoying that the books so far are pretty consistent in size and are pretty quick reads. as for the story line did like it a bit more. there were more scenes where I was surprised that in the first book. it seemed like the ending both when he was in the underland and after when he came back were very rushed. she dragged out the piece where they were all on the boat and then rushed the end. overall I did enjoy it and I'm currently onto the next book.

If possible, I liked this even better than the first in the series. And as a friend in the know anticipated, the fireflies became my new favorites.
