The hard thing about Marvel/DC is that you can never 100% smoothly drop into reading something. Everything is connected, there is history, and everything had to be written in an accessible way that means people can pick up from wherever (ie. expositional and clunky writing).

I knew this was a good place to pick up on for the newer line of Avengers related comics. That and I’ve always been a huge X-Men fan and wanted to build up to AvX (with the juicy Jean Grey/Phoenix Force/Wanda content).

The start of this was... awkward. Badly paced. Crammed with action and no breathing room, or anything to properly set up the stakes. The only reason I knew this was such a catastrophic moment was because I kept being repeatedly told it was. Side note, other comic writers (Rainbow Rowell for Runaways, Marv Wolfman for New Teen Titans) have smooth ways of referencing past material and catching readers up... maybe Bendis should look to them for guidance.

Also, the artwork is not great. Not Greg Land level awful, but it’s the same typical overly dark, overly lined, ill proportioned shit I usually see from these titles. It makes the experience worse, when really the artwork should elevate the story. A lot of the time, I found myself either completely skimming pages for the speech bubbles because I couldn’t clearly read the images, or I was looking at the artwork and picking out what was wrong.

(side-note, why is it so damn hard for male comic book artists to draw female characters? Do y’all know how breasts work?? Do you have any understanding of anatomy and the human body? Hint, if someone is in an action pose and stretching their arms out then their breasts are going to following that direction — NOT stay pushed together up to the person’s chin. Also, can we stop twisting spines so we get both an ass and tit shot?).

Overall, I’m glad I watched Endgame/WandaVision before reading this. This definitely feels like a rough draft that the MCU improved upon.

Disturbing an uneven. One of those turning points in the Marvel Universe. Unfortunately I know I can never trust the Marvel Universe to really maintain continuity. But this one was colossal. Some favorite bits - individual Avenger's talking about their favorite day as an Avenger, a huge crowd of ex-Avengers appearing because the Avenger's need them. A little less confusion, a little more coherent selling of Wanda's history. But pretty darned good. 4.5 of 5.

A great read for anyone who loves the avengers, and for anyone who is a fan of the MCU (wandavision and Doctor strange 2 especially). This storyline takes apart the avengers in a way that is climactic and satisfying, whilst not swelling too long on unnecessary fights, and focuses more on relationships and personal feelings of the members involved. Couple this with the pain of a troubled mind, wanda in this case, and you have a completely compelling reason for the disbanding of the avengers in their current form, leading onto a new world of stories afterwards.

Un cómic que amo.
Una relectura excelente.
Amo ver a Iron Man recordando que es él quién aguanta Avengers.
Amo también poder ver el deterioro de la mente de Wanda Maximoff, no me canso de verlo

Read this for backstory for House of M because I am currently obsessed with WandaVision. Pretty good.

This story arc covers a pivotal point in the Avengers' history, with the team taking a beating and breaking up for the near future by the end. It also introduces some incredible display of power by Scarlet Witch, inspired by the many traumatic experiences she has endured. The execution, however, is pretty meh to me. Characters feel fairly flat, even Scarlet Witch hardly has any input or perspective despite being the central cause of this event. Most of her role is established via others talking about her.

I think I am finding that I prefer comic lines that follow a smaller number of characters, or even individuals, as it is easier to see the more human side of all of these near-mythological beings. This story hints at the various flaws of the group, but it is so rapid-fire that barely anything comes of it within the pages of the story.

This book, along with Civil War are the reason I started collected graphic novels, trade paperbacks and general books again. I love this concept, I love these characters and I love the following story arcs that follow this.

I wanted to read more about the Avengers after watching all the MCU movies. I am trying to go back and read more to see how the characters came together, mixed with others, and more about how the characters came to be.

This was interesting to me to read this series and now I want to read the story arcs before this as well as the series that evolve from this day.

It's been a while since I read this, but I wanted a refresher before WandaVision because I think this story will be important for phase 4 of the MCU. It's a good story, but I think it works best as a set up to all the stuff that happens over the next in the 616 Universe (Captain America's Winter Soldier arc, Iron Man's Extremis arc). I particularly like what happens with the X-Men, and then leading into House of M, which is basically like the Avengers: Disassembled of mutant-kind.

Anyway, the art is great. I love a Wanda story and this definitely puts her in a place where she is a major player in the comics. Anytime the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange are together I'm for it.
