This book was... delighting! I can't really think of a different word to describe it, it made me happy, it made me want to travel, and in a way, it made me want to be 18 again.

This and other reviews can be found at (un)Conventional Bookviews.

Just One Day is the story of Allyson, who finally decides to take a chance, do something she wants to do and go with the flow.

I love these books! I reread them all the time.

I'm at a loss for adjectives. Gayle Forman, if I could give you 10 stars or so, I definitely would.

Hands down, my most overwhelming read after Me Before You. And that was months ago.

I can't even begin to describe how wonderful this book was/is. I was smiling for a solid minute after reading, just staring at it, feeling like a lunatic. And that's when I knew that I couldn't write a formal review on this one. I could only gush and beam with joy. Very inspiring, yes. I wanna travel even more.

God, I hope October will come fast. I cannot wait for Just One Year, in Willem's POV. :)

Buddy read with Alexandra Nyx

good self discovery, trash boy

I have had this book on my bookshelf for years! So I am pleased that not only did I finally get round to reading it, but I also thoroughly enjoyed it.

I did find the beginning to be a bit slow paced but then it suddenly picked up and soon enough I couldn’t put it down.

I loved the characters and loved how Allyson was discovering who she was as a person and not who her parents or her friends wanted her to be. I think reading this book as I am finishing high school just like Allyson just finished high school made it even more relatable as she begins to discover herself outside of school.

I loved the descriptions and imagery. As someone who has been to Paris and fell in love with it, part of the book being set in Paris and Forman’s gorgeous descriptions of Paris made me fall even more in love and I can’t wait to go back one day.

The ending did frustrate me though. Just because I felt that there was such a big build up and then it just ended right before we could hit a climactic end. I do know that there is a sequel and then a short novella as well and I plan to read both soon so I am hoping that those will help with the ending of the story.

Overall this was an enjoyable read and for those of you who have read Forman’s other book, ‘If I Stay’, don’t worry, it isn’t as sad. I just truly hope there is more of a resolved ending within either the sequel or the novella.

NON! Ça ne peut pas se finir comme ça! J'ai besoin de savoir ce qui va se passer après!

I am a big fan of coming-of-age stories. And this book is enlightening and colourful. The exploration of Europe, namely Paris and Holland, are a delight, especially when weaved into a short-lived romance. What would tug at a reader's heartstrings, if not a good old love story, of being whisked into a foreign country, falling in love with the place and the person that promised you adventure. However, reality beckoned, sending straight-laced Allyson spiralling in depression in her first year of college, yearning for answers as to what made their romance so short-lived and practically elusive. Allyson finds that she had somehow lost herself when she lost Willem, but by doing so, she gathered the courage to find her true self, and to take risks. And that is why this is a good coming-of-age story. It helps with all the Shakespeare allusions, too! ;)
