The first third of a biography is generally terrible because no one cares about the inconsequential shit of the subject’s youth or really wants sketched bios of their parents and grandparents. That’s doubly true when the author is trying so hard to convey the Italian, Long Island-based version of the Andy Griffith Show necessary for him to label himself blue-collar. For the sake of the readers’ sanity I wish we could’ve just stipulated at the outset that at the very least the Mooch believes himself to be Italian, from Long Island, blue collar, and awesome, so that we wouldn’t have to endure him strenuously repeat these ‘facts’ ad nauseum.
